Former Bulgarian journalist and current aspiring politican Nikolay Barekov has ascribed to himself the merit of putting an end to the rule of center-right party GERB.

"It was me who stopped [GERB leader and former PM] Boyko Borisov from power, not after, but before elections," said Barekov Saturady in a TV7 show that he himself used to lead.

The former journalists was refering to a TV7 report on the so-called "fake ballots scandal" which flared just a day before May 12 early general elections.

The TV channel reported on how law enforcement authorities seized some 400,000 surplus ballots produced at a printing house, which to some suggested a planned election fraud.

"My report from the printing house in Kostinbrod put an end to GERB in its current form. As a matter of fact, my entry into politics dates from then," said Barekov.

According to him, Boyko Borisov, along with former Interior Minister Tsvetan Tsvetanov, and current Bulgarian President Rosen Plevneliev are the persons to be held responsible for the illegal printing of ballots.

Earlier in September, Barekov officially quit TV7 and its sister channels, and announced an upcoming political career, suggesting his ambitions reach very high, including the positions of Bulgarian PM or President.

During the larger part of the Borisov cabinet's term in office (2009-13), Barekov gained notoriety for a noted pro-government bias of his shows, only to sharply switch direction some months ago.
