Bulgarian Prime Minister Plamen Oresharski has no intentions to resign, according to the government press office.

The news was reported Friday afternoon by the Bulgarian public radio BNR.

BNR reporters have approached the Cabinet's press office with a request for official information after rumors suggesting Oresharski was about to resign went viral on social media on Friday.

The press office further informed that the PM was at a meeting with local mayors in the northwestern city of Vratsa and was going to personally disprove the rumors later in the evening.

It has also emerged that the buzz has been deliberately spread by anti-government protesters, in the style of a social media "flash mob."

Around 4 pm, a large number of Bulgarian Facebook and Twitter users started publishing simultaneously posts that Oresharski has suddenly decided to resign. As they are people with many friends on the social networks, the rumor spread as an avalanche and was even reported as news by a number of local media.

The organizers were hoping precisely to generate media interest as many of them monitor social networks.

They say the protesters wish to use Goebbels' method of spreading lies in the form of truth, which is applied by the Bulgarian government as well.
