Bulgarian International Provisionally Suspended after Doping Test

A Bulgarian international football player whose name is yet to be revealed has been provisionally suspended for an initial period of 30 days after failing a doping test at the World Cup qualifier away to Malta earlier in September, FIFA has announced.

The analysis of the player’s “A' sample has revealed the presence of prohibited substances included in WADA’s 2013 Prohibited List.

The decision taken by the chairman of the FIFA Disciplinary Committee to provisionally suspend the player was duly communicated to the Bulgarian Football Union on September 26.

Several Bulgarian news websites have reported that the player in question might be Ludogorets Razgrad full-back Yordan Minev. However, the report has not been verified so far.

Minev was injured and did not play in Bulgaria's 2:1 away win against Malta on September 10.

The other Bulgarian player tested after the game was Verona goalkeeper Nikolay Mihaylov.

In line with article 74 paragraph 2 of the FIFA Anti-Doping Regulations, only after it has been determined in a hearing that an anti-doping rule violation has occurred, or after such hearing has been waived, or the assertion of an anti-doping rule violation has not been timely challenged, may FIFA publicly report the anti-doping rule that has been violated, the name of the player who has committed the violation, the prohibited substance and the consequences imposed.

In cases where a single player is involved in doping, teams are not sanctioned and results are not affected.
