Former chairman of the Conservative Party in Great Britain, Lord Norman Tebbit has said he is not worried about immigrants from Bulgaria and Romania.

Speaking on Sky News, Lord Tebbit claimed that his biggest concern are people coming in from Third World countries.

“The bigger problem that is caused in our cities is caused by immigrants from the third world who have got no intention of integrating here. They are people who left their country, came here and are trying to recreate their country in our country”, he stated.

Regarding immigration within Europe, the British parliamentarian said that, “We don't have much of a problem with people like the Poles, the Czechs, the Slovaks or indeed French or Germans who come here”.

Lord Tebbit is known for making controversial remarks on immigration, religion, and homosexuality in the past.

His comments come amidst debate in the UK regarding the lifting of restrictions to the local labor market for Bulgarian and Romanian citizens from the beginning of 2014. Many conservatives have expressed their fears of immigration waves from the two Balkan countries.

January 1, 2014, is the expiration date of the seven-year transition period after Bulgaria and Romania's EU accession, in which the other EU member states could limit Bulgarians and Romanians' access to their labor markets.

No EU member state can unilaterally extend the existing labor market restrictions for Bulgarians and Romanians beyond the end of 2013
