Bulgaria, US Launch Extensive Joint Security Drill

The joint Bulgarian-US security forces drill Thrown Glove 2013 has started in Bulgaria Tuesday.

The exercise is led by Bulgarian Deputy-PM and Minister of Interior Tsvetlin Yovchev, aided by Bulgarian Defense Vice-Chief Contra-admiral Georgi Georgiev.

Officers of Bulgaria's interior and defense ministries, as well as of the State Agency for National Security (DANS), the National Intelligence Service, and the Agency for Nuclear Regulation participate in the drill.

The US has deployed officers of the US army European Command, the Special Operations Command, the Special Forces and teh US embassy in Sofia.

The exercise, which are the result of a year of planning, includes multiple game challenges to improve cooperation, operative compatibility and understanding between Bulgaria and the US.

A press release from Bulgaria's Minsitry of Interior states that the drill has a routine nature and is in no way related to ongoing international events.
