Bulgarian Exports Up 8% in H1 2013 Y/Y

In the first half of 2013 (January – June) Bulgarian exports to the EU increased by 6.5% compared to the corresponding period of the previous year and amounted to BGN 12.3 B.

The main trade partners of Bulgaria were Germany, Italy, Romania, Greece and France which accounted for 69.5% of the exports to the EU Member States.

The data was released by the National Statistics Institute, NSI, on Tuesday.

In June 2013, exports to the EU increased by 1.4% compared to the corresponding month of the previous year and amounted to BGN 2 B.

Bulgarian imports from the EU in the period January - June 2013 decreased by BGN 6.8 M, compared to the corresponding period of the previous year and added up to BGN 14.4 B at CIF prices.

The largest amounts were reported for the goods imported from Germany, Italy, Romania, Greece and Spain.

In June 2013, Bulgarian imports from EU Member States decreased by 3.1% compared to the corresponding month of the previous year and amounted to BGN 2.6 B at CIF prices.

The foreign trade balance of Bulgaria (export FOB - import CIF) with EU in the period January – June 2013 was negative and added up to BGN 2 178.5 M. At FOB/FOB prices (after elimination of transport and insurance costs on imports) the trade balance was also negative and amounted to BGN 1 519.9 M.

In the first six months of 2013, compared to the corresponding period of the previous year, the largest growth (26.2%) in the exports of Bulgaria to EU, distributed according to the Standard International Trade Classification, was recorded in the section "Beverages and tobacco". The most notable fall (8.4%) was recorded in section "Food and live animals".

In imports from EU, the largest increase (9.1%) was reported in section "Chemical and related products n.e.c." while the most notable fall (6.7%) was observed in the section "Machinery and transport equipment".

In the period January - July 2013, Bulgarian exports to third countries increased by 10.2% compared to the corresponding period of 2012 and amounted to BGN 10.1 B.

The main trade partners of Bulgaria were Turkey, Gibraltar, Russian Federation, China, Ukraine and Serbia which accounted for 52.6% of the exports to non EU countries.

In July 2013, the exports to third countries increased by 11.1% compared to the corresponding month of the previous year and amounted to BGN 1.5 B.

Bulgarian imports from third countries in the first seven months of 2013 decreased by 0.3% compared to the corresponding period of 2012 and added up to BGN 11.8 B. The largest amounts were reported for the goods imported from Russian Federation, Turkey, China and Ukraine.

In July 2013 the Bulgarian imports from third countries increased by 8.2% compared to the corresponding month of the previous year and amounted to BGN 1.8 B.

The foreign trade balance of Bulgaria (export FOB - import CIF) with third countries in the period January - July 2013 was negative and added up to BGN 1 712.6 M.

The trade balance at FOB/FOB prices (after elimination of transport and insurance costs on imports) was also negative and amounted to BGN 1088.9 M.

In July 2013, the foreign trade balance of Bulgaria (export FOB - import CIF) with third countries was negative and amounted to BGN 272.8 M.

In the first seven months of 2013, compared to the corresponding period of 2012, the largest growths in the exports of Bulgaria to third countries, distributed according to the Standard International Trade Classification, were recorded in the sections "Food and live animals" (58.2%) and "Machinery and transport equipment" (28.8%). The most notable fall was reported in section "Animals and vegetable oils, fats and waxes" (12.1%).

In imports from third countries the largest growth was reported in section "Food and live animals" (35.1%) while the most notable fall was observed in section "Animals and vegetable oils, fats and waxes" (26.6%).

In the period January - July 2013, the value of all exported goods from Bulgaria amounted to BGN 24.8 B and compared to the corresponding period of the previous year the exports increased by 8.0%.

In July 2013, the total exports added up to BGN 4.0 B and increased by 9.0% compared to the corresponding month of the previous year.

The total value of all the goods imported in the country in the period January - July 2013 amounted to BGN 29.1 B (at CIF prices), or by 0.5% more than the corresponding period of the previous year.

In July 2013, total imports increased by 7.2% compared to the corresponding month of the previous year and added up to BGN 4.7 B.

The total foreign trade balance (exports FOB - import CIF) was negative in the period January - July 2013 and amounted to BGN 4 286.9 M which was BGN 1 698.5 M less than the balance in the first seven months of 2012.

At FOB/FOB prices (after elimination of transport and insurance costs on imports) in the period January - July 2013 the total foreign trade balance was also negative and amounted to BGN 2 860.9 M.

In July 2013, the total foreign trade balance (exports FOB - import CIF) was negative and added up to BGN 682.8 M. The trade balance at FOB/FOB prices was also negative and amounted to BGN 442.2 M.
