Bulgaria's President, PM Greet Jewish Community for New Year

Bulgaria's President Rosen Plevneliev and PM Plamen Oresharski have sent letters of good wishes to Bulgaria's Jewish Organization Shalom for the traditional Jewish New Year.

The Hebrew date for the holiday, known as Rosh Hashanah, is 1 Tishrei 5774, which this year falls on September 5.

Shalom also received a letter of wishes from the Ambassador of Israel to Sofia, Shaul Kamisa-Raz

In their official addresses, Plevneliev and Oresharski sincerely wished the Jewish community in Bulgaria and Jews across the world health, peace and wealth

They further expressed their hopes for cooperation and harmony between Jews and Bulgaria and the other nations.

Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year, is celebrated in 2013 from sundown on Sept. 4 to nightfall on Sept. 6.

Rosh Hashanah, one of four new years in the Jewish year, is considered the new year of people, animals and legal contracts.

In the Jewish oral tradition, Rosh Hashanah marks the completion of the creation of the world.
