French President Francois Hollande has stated that he expects progress towards a unified position regarding Syria during the ongoing G-20 summit in St. Petersburg.

The Syrian issue is not officially on the agenda, but Russian President Vladimir Putin has said he is willing to discuss it on the side, at the request of "other participants."

At his arrival, Hollande said that he hopes that progress can be achieved during talks with Putin and US President Barack Obama.

The French President also called for a unified EU position on the Syrian conflict.
