Controversial Bulgarian ultranationalist leader Volen Siderov has once again urged the country to remain fully neutral on the conflict in Syria.

Siderov, whose Ataka (Attack) party is known for its pro-Russian sentiments, told Bulgaria’s Parliament Wednesday that the US would probably strike Syria on September 10, urging the Bulgarian government not to support military action in the Middle Eastern county.

“This is an independent and sovereign nation that should not be attacked, no matter whether we like its leader or not,” he declared.

Siderov warned that Syria would turn into an “Islamist and jihadist country” if attacked.

He said he believed a potential attack on Syria would lead to a “third world war.”

Even though it is not officially part of Bulgaria's ruling Socialist-led coalition, Ataka is a key ally of the government.
