The construction of a 34-km section of Bulgaria's Maritsa highway will be delayed by 6 months, with the new deadline set at June 2014, the Bulgarian Regional Development Ministry said Friday.

The section connecting the towns of Orizovo and Harmanly was to be ready by November 2013.

However, the construction work has been delayed by floods and unexpected archeology findings, Mediapool.bg informs.

Bulgaria's key Maritsa highway is expected to be fully constructed by May 2015.

The highway, which is being constructed courtesy of EU funds, is part of the Pan-European Transport Corridor connecting Central and Eastern Europe with the Middle East and Asia.
