Sofia Named World's 87th Most Livable City

Bulgaria's capital Sofia has been ranked 87th out of a total of 140 cities worldwide in  Economist Intelligence Unit's (EIU) most recent livability ranking.

Bulgarian news website Dnevnik.bg has observed that the city's overall score has dropped by 4.9% over the past five years, with only the cities Cairo, Tripoli and Damascus seeing more considerable decreases over the same period.

EIU's new report placed Melbourne, Australia as the most livable city in the world, with Vienna, Austria taking second place, followed by Vancouver,Canada.

The top cities and indeed much of the rankings remained similar to last year, with Australian and New Zealand cities landing five of the top 10 spots. Canadian cities made up another three of the top 10 positions.

At the bottom end of the scale, the 2013 report lists Damascus (Syria) as worst, followed by Tehran (Iran), Douala (Cameroon), Tripoli (Libya), Karachi (Pakistan), Algiers (Algeria), Harare (Zimbabwe), Lagos (Nigeria)Port Moresby (PNG) and Dhaka (Bangladesh).
