A 4.0-magnitude earthquake has been registered Thursday in Romania, according to reports of the European Mediterranean Seismological Center (EMSC).
It occurred at 7:06 am. The epicenter is 9 km deep and was close to the Bulgarian Danube city of Ruse.
It is located 261 km northeast of the Bulgarian capital Sofia and 56 km south of Romania's capital Bucharest.
There are no reports of casualties, injuries or material damage unlike the 7.6-magnitude in Romania's Vrancea earthquake from March 1977 that killed 1 600 persons in Romania and Bulgaria, and damaged 8 500 buildings. The Bulgarian casualties in the town of Svishtov were 120.
For this reason, reports about tremors in Romania always fuel fears the region is becoming active again.
