Bulgaria Asks EC to Slate 10% of EU Funds for Education

Bulgaria will ask to have 10% of the European funds for the 2014 - -2020 period to be slated for science and education.

The statement was made Sunday by Education Minister, Aneliya Klisarova, speaking for the public radio, Bulgarian National Radio.

Klisarova explained her and her team conducted a number of negotiations and meetings with representatives of the European Commission in charge of Bulgaria's education and research sector to convince them how important this money was for the country.

She was firm the education program will find its place in the agreement with the EU no later then September.

The Minister stressed she put on the table before the EC the issue of having an Education and Science Operational Program because they are priority not only for Bulgaria, but the entire EU.

"The expectations were for much more funding. We are very late in debating if we should have such program," Klisarova said.

She announced that a Deputy Education Minister will be appointed Monday to just oversee the EU programs for the development of scientific research and education.
