Bulgaria's National Health Insurance Fund Expects Deficit of BGN 108 M by end-2013

The management of Bulgaria's National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF) expects a deficit of BGN 108 M by end-2013 and calls for a revision of its budget by Parliament.

Rumyana Todorova, head of the NHIF, announced Thursday at a press conference that the implementation of the NHIF budget from health insurance contributions by August pointed to a shortfall of BGN 109 041 674 by December 31, 2013.

Todorova, as cited by the BGNES news agency, made clear that the revenue forecast had been fulfilled to 50.8% by July 31, of which 46.4% had been supplied through health insurance contributions, while the expense forecast had been fulfilled to 60%, which was how the deficit had been formed.

She said that the shortage of funds for health insurance payments for specialized medical care at outpatient institutions was expected to amount to BGN 1 352 000, the shortage of funds for pharmaceuticals was to reach BGN 34 504 000, the shortage of funds for dental care was to settle at BGN 6 997 000, the shortage of funds for medical assistance at hospitals was to reach BGN 361 167 00 and the shortage of funds for medical goods was expected to amount to BGN 11 447 000.
