The entire Bulgaria is under the highest alert over the threat of wildfires.

Codes Red and Orange are declared Wednesday as there is eminent danger of large-scale and quickly spreading fires in forests and fields.

The Fire Safety and Protection of the Population Directorate informs that in the last few days the situation has become more complex with several raging fires that required the use of large resources of firefighters, civil defense employees, forest rangers and volunteers.

The National Institute for Meteorology and Hydrology at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, BAS, also warns of increased risk of wildfires.

Citizens are reminded that lighting a fire or flame and/or smoking near dry bushes, grass and woods are strictly banned. All vehicles without fire extinguishers are also banned in these areas.

Meanwhile, a new large fire in a pine forest has been reported near the village of Zmeyovo in the central Stara Zagora region. The population is not in danger as a large number of firefighters have managed to localize the blaze.

There was another fire in the region, which has been tamed, with some small outbreaks lingering, and the latest one occurred even before the crisis headquarters was dismissed. The wildfire near the Black Sea city of Varna has been tamed as well, while the one near the southern town of Harmanli has been fully extinguished.

Code orange means intense weather situations with potential damage, injuries and casualties.

Code Red means the weather is extremely dangerous with very intense meteorological events and possibility for damage and casualties.
