Bulgaria's cabinet should resign for failing to prevent Monday's crash near the soon to be opened Yana junction of the Hemus Highway, said former PM Boyko Borisov.

"I call on PM Plamen Oresharski to immediately release from duty Regional Development Minister Desislava Terzieva, I also call on the prosecution to act regarding the criminal neglicence of this minister, who delayed the opening of the completed junction," said Borisov in a special statement.

"I am also calling for a resignation of the whole Oresharski cabinet. People who think their egoism is above public interest and safety have no place in Bulgaria's government," added he.

The chain crash Monday happened only hours before the opening of a new junction near Yana station, which will connect the Hemus Highway to Sofia's Ringroad and Botevgradsko Shosse Blvd.

Sofia Mayor Yordanka Fandakova also criticized the cabinet for not opening the junction for exploitation, saying the facility could have been opened ahead of the official inauguration ceremony this Monday.

Conflicting reports say that two or three people have perished in the crash, with five more significantly injured.
