There is a feeling of suspicion and skepticism in Europe towards Bulgaria due to the persistent anti-government rallies in the last two months, according to Bulgarian Ambassador in Switzerland, Meglena Plugchieva.

Plugchieva, who is a former Deputy PM and EU Funds Management Minister in the Three-Way Coalition Cabinet (2005 – 2009), led by Socialist Sergey Stanishev, told TV7 Sunday that the protests were symptoms of instability, causing suspicion and putting on hold plans of foreign investors.

According to her, Bulgarians fail to draw the line between the achievements and the mistakes of political parties, which is a sign of not placing national interests above partisan ones.

"The focus is always on the flaws, while the European practice is exactly the opposite – seeking consensus, trust, consistency and continuity," said Plugchieva.

The diplomat stressed the Bulgarian mission in Switzerland was trying to change the negative image and has launched a campaign to promote Bulgaria as a tourist destination.

"We have much to show not only to Switzerland but to the entire Europe. We need to learn to advertise our positives, which are plenty," the former Minister concluded.
