An earthquake of magnitude 2.1 on the Richter scale has been registered Sunday morning near western Bulgarian city of Pernik.

The tremor was at a depth of 3 km, and was felt by some local residents, according to the Focus Information Agency.

There are no reports of injured people or damages.

The May 22, 2012 5.8-degree Pernik earthquake was the strongest recorded in Bulgaria since the 1977 Vrancea earthquake whose epicenter was in Romania.

The latest earthquakes with an epicenter in Bulgaria that were stronger than the tremors in Pernik last year were the 1942 Razgrad earthquake, and a series of shakes near Chirpan and Popovitsa in 1928, with both events reaching a magnitude 7 on Richter.
