The large wildfire which has spread to some 2,400 acres in an exurban area near eastern Bulgarian town of Aytos has been contained.

Damage caused includes burned down summer houses, vineyards, vegetable gardens and forests.

The cause for the fire is still not clear but fire rescue authorities reiterate the fact that most summer wildfires in Bulgaria erupt due to human negligence in hot and dry weather.

The separate 200-acre wildfire close to the nearby villages of Sarnitsa and Spahievo has now been extinguished.

Firefighters are still working on quenching the Aytos blaze, but they have prevented it from spreading any further.
