Summer Heat Wave Peaks in Bulgaria

The sizzling weather in Bulgaria will persist on Friday, turning it into one of the hottest days this year.

On Friday the mercury will zoom up to 36-39C in the southwestern parts of the country, highs in the capital Sofia have been forecast at 33C.

Nine Bulgarian regions have been placed under Code Yellow because of the dangerous heat.

Code Yellow will be in effect for the regions of Vidin, Montana, Vratsa, Pleven, Lovech, Ruse, Blagoevgrad, Kyustendil and Stara Zagora, with temperatures between 35C and 38C expected.

Lows have been forecast at 10°-15°.

Medics urge people with heart problems to stay home during the hottest hours of the day. Drivers should be on their highest alert and take regularly short breaks with refreshments.

The highest summer temperature was recorded in Bulgaria in 1916 - 45,2C.
