Center-right party Citizens for European Development of Bulgaria (GERB) has issued a media statement calling for an end to politically motivated dismissals.

GERB insists that the government must stop the political purge which is being implemented on a national scale and quit "repressions against longtime experts and the administrative staff drain."

The declaration, as cited by mediapool.bg, points out that "such actions threaten the normal implementation of EU projects and pose a serious risk of compromising the absorption of EU funds."

GERB also cautions that "the ruling three-way coalition of the Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP), ethnic Turkish party Movement for Rights and Freedoms (DPS), and nationalist party Ataka will use the parliamentary recess to cover up the ongoing political repression in the administration"

"The ongoing political purge taking place at a time when the executive cannot be subject to parliamentary control reveals the full scale of the political impudence of the new government," the statement says.

GERB cites the dismissal of experts at the southwestern Blagoevgrad district as an illustration.

"Alongside the administrative reshuffle in the district city, the coalition partners from BSP and DPS did not spare the smaller municipalities," the center-right party claims.

"Vili Tsankova, senior expert at the labor office in the municipality of Garmen, was dismissed after 21 years of experience in the system," GERB informs, adding that she was forced to leave after personal threats by former Mayor and newly elected DPS MP Ahmed Bashev.

"Plamen Poyukov, director of the state-owned game breeding ground in Satovcha, was also dismissed for political reasons," GERB adds.
