Bulgaria Appoints New Customs Agency Deputy Head

A former long-term official of Bulgaria’s interior ministry has been appointed deputy chief of the country’s customs agency.

Nikolay Popov will be in charge of customs intelligence and investigations in his capacity of Deputy Head of Customs Agency, the press office of the Ministry of Finance announced on Monday.

Popov is a longtime employee of the Ministry of Interior, where he headed the unit for fighting organized crime in the capital Sofia.

He has experience in fighting and preventing crime related to trafficking in persons, smuggling of excise goods and drugs and others, the statement of the ministry said.
