Bulgaria’s lawmakers held their last sitting before their prolonged summer break on Friday, as several dozens of protesters gathered in front of the Parliament to “see them off.”

The Bulgarian Parliament, which convened for the first time in mid-May, will be in summer break starting Monday, August 5. The MPs will be back to work on September 4.

Friday marks the 50th consecutive day of anti-government rallies in the Bulgarian capital.
The protests were prompted by a series of highly controversial appointments and wider concerns about corruption.

The rallies are expected to once again reach an attendance in the tens of thousands once the holiday season is over and the MPs return to work.

At 9 am on Saturday, a protest march to the seaside starts on Independence square in downtown Sofia. The protesters plan to reach the former royal residence and the current government residence "Evksinograd" near Varna in around 10 days, going through the cities of Plovdiv, Stara Zagora, Burgas and Varna on the way.

On Thursday, the demonstrators asked Bulgarian President Rosen Plevneliev to veto the newly adopted amendments to the 2013 State Budget Act.
