Bulgaria Could Enter Guinness Book with Five Govts in 2013

Bulgaria will enter into the Guiness Book of World Records if the looming prospect of five new governments within a year turns into reality, an expert has said.

"We've had three governments so far this year. If the current government of Plamen Oresharski continues to pretend there are no protestors calling for its resignation, it will be forced at one point to resign very quickly and under bigger pressure,” Mihail Konstantinov, a mathematician and former head of state-owned IT company Information Services, commented in an article for 24 Hours daily.

“The resignation of Oresharski government will be followed by a new caretaker government, new snap polls and yet another new government. That means we may have five governments this year. This is a record worthy of the Guiness Book,” he added.

In February 2013 Prime Minister Boyko Borisov resigned following persistent street protests against high energy bills, poverty and corruption.

Following weeks without a government, on March 13 Bulgaria's President Rosen Plevneliev announced a caretaker cabinet.

The administration was headed by a diplomat, Marin Raikov, who organized early elections.

Elections were not held for three months, after which in May vote Borisov emerged with a narrow lead.

However opposition parties refused to share power with him and eventually patched together their own coalition.
