Scores of Bulgarians have gathered in downtown Sofia at noon Monday to protest against government plans to update State Budget 2013.

The Socialist-endorsed cabinet of Prime Minister, Plamen Oresharski, is holding an emergency sitting in the first day of the workweek to vote on the actualization.

The demonstrators, who are in the vicinity of the government headquarters on Independence square, say the planned new loan of BGN 1 B will be detrimental for the economy and suspect the country's rules are covering up the real reasons for the decision to increase the State debt by such large amount.

They are shouting for the resignation of the Cabinet. Riot police attempted to disperse them, but they remained on the sidewalk, and because they are not obstructing traffic and not committing violations, they have the right to be there.

The protest comes on the heels of the 26th coffee-drinking anti-government rally in front of the Parliament building and is to merge with the traditional afternoon one, the 39th in a row, starting 6.30 pm in front of the Council of Ministers building.
