Bulgarian Protesters to Pay Homage to Natl Radio, German Envoy

Protesting Bulgarians, who Monday will go on their 32nd consecutive anti-government rally in Sofia, plan to reroute their march to show their respect for the Bulgarian National Radio and Germany's diplomatic mission.

According to some protesters, the National Radio deserves praise for the extensive and sympathetic coverage it has been giving rallies.

Last week, German ambassador Matthias Hoepfner issued together with French counterpart Philippe Autie a statement of support for protests in a major Bulgarian daily.

The two diplomats joined protesters' calls for an end to the lasting influence of the oligarchy over Bulgarian political life.

Ralliers already thanked Autie by amassing in front of the French embassy in central Sofia, on the eve of France's national holiday, July 14.

If carried out, Monday's plan means rerouting the evening march along the Dragan Tzankov Blvd to reach the headquarters of the Bulgarian National Radio, and then on to Frederic Joliot Curie Str to reach the German embassy.
