Bulgaria Ranked Fifth Most Vice-Prone Nation by Bloomberg

Bulgaria ranks fifth in Bloomberg's ranking of vice-prone countries.

Bloomberg has ranked 57 countries on their propensity for vice, with the Czech Republic estimated as the most decadent country and Zambia, which is among the 100 poorest countries in the world, evaluated as the most virtuous.

Four variables, including total adult per capita alcohol consumption, total adult per capita cigarette consumption, annual prevalence of drug use (a percentage of the population ages 15-64) and total gambling losses as a percentage of GDP , were taken for the analysis.

The country with the maximum value in each variable received 25 points for that variable; the country with the minimum value received zero points. Points for each variable were summed for a final score.

With a total of 64.5 points, the Czech Republic tops the ranking of vice-prone countries, followed closely by Slovenia, Australia and Armenia.

Bulgaria ranks fifth with 54 points, with scores of 11.4 liters of alcohol consumed by an adult per year, 2 822 cigarettes consumed by an adult per year, net gambling losses of 0.82% of GDP, annual prevalence of amphetamine use of 1%, annual prevalence of cannabis use of 2.5%, annual prevalence of cocaine use of 0.6% and annual prevalence of ecstasy use of 0.7%.

In comparison, Greece ranks tenth with a score of 49.2 and Turkey is near the bottom of the ranking, at place 49, with a score of 18.7.

The least vice-prone country, Zambia, is among the 100 poorest countries in the world.
