7 temperature records have been broken and one equalled Saturday as a heat wave that has gripped Bulgaria for the past week intensified.

The recods have been registered in capital Sofia, in the western town of Dragoman, in Pleven and Svishtov in the north, as well as on Mussala, Cherni Vrah and Rozhen summits.

Temperatures were well in the 30s on the Centigrade scale in most locations in the country, reports Bulgaria's national weather service.

The hottest points Saturday were Svishtov, Ruse and Sandanski at 36 degrees C, followed by Vidin, Vratsa, Montana and Pazardzhik at 35 C.

Sunday is expected to bring even hotter weather to the country with temperatures in the northeast and southwest expected to reach 38-39 C, reports the National Institute of Meteorology and Hydrology at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences.
