Bulgarian MPs Drop Green Energy Surcharge at 1st Reading

The Members of the Bulgarian Parliament passed at first reading Friday amendments to the Renewable Energy Sources Act.

The amendments provide for eliminating the so-called "green surcharge" for transit, which is supposed to recover the export of electric energy in a very short timeframe.

The other amendment pertains to allowing State bodies to use the funds accumulated through the sale of "green certificates" to compensate costs of renewable energy sources.

All 84 MPs present voted for the draft bill. The MPs from the formerly-ruling Citizens for European Development of Bulgaria party, GERB, are not attending the sessions of the Parliament on the decision of their leader and former Prime Minister, Boyko Borisov.
