Bulgarian Chief Prosecutor Sotir Tsatsarov has criticized former Prime Minister Boyko Borisov, who claimed Thursday that a plot exists to “arrest him and murder him in custody.”

Tsatsarov called Borisov’s accusation as “ridiculous, to say the least” and urged the former Prime Minister not to involve the rule of law institutions in his political talk.

“The prosecution is not participating in any plots,” Tsatsarov declared.

Earlier on Thursday, Borisov, leader of the center-right GERB party, made the controversial statement that the ruling Socialist-led government was plotting to kill him.

He reminded that Bulgarian Socialist Party leader and PES president Sergey Stanishev recently described the appointment of controversial businessman Delyan Peevski as an “unorthodox” decision.

According to the center-right leader, that meant Stanishev was seeking an “unorthodox” way to deal with him – by killing him while in custody.

He said Peevski’s appointment was made by Ahmed Dogan, a former leader of the liberal Movement for Rights and Freedoms party.

Back in February, Borisov also claimed Dogan was masterminding a plot to assassinate him.

Peevski’s appointment was reversed by Parliament on Wednesday following a week of massive nationwide protests against his election.

The move failed to appease protesters, who have demanded the government’s resignation.

Borisov claimed on Thursday that the protests have foiled the assassination plot against him.
