Iran’s President-elect Hassan Rouhani has declared that the country is ready to show more transparency on its nuclear program.

In his first news conference since Friday's vote, Rouhani also described as unfair sanctions imposed on the country over the issue, according to the BBC.

The President-elect also stressed that he would oppose halting Iran's uranium enrichment.
"Our nuclear programs are completely transparent," Rouhani said.

"But we are ready to show greater transparency and make clear for the whole world that the steps of the Islamic Republic of Iran are completely within international frameworks," he added.

Iran's president does not have authority to set major policies such as the direction of the nuclear program or relations with the West. All such decisions rest with the ruling clerics and the powerful Revolutionary Guard, which have so far appeared to embrace Rouhani, according to international media.
