The Citizens for European Development of Bulgaria (GERB) party is taking now a firm course for early elections and Grand National Assembly.

The plan was revealed by the Deputy Chairman of GERB, former Interior Minister Tsvetan Tsvetanov, who made a statement from the parliamentary tribune on behalf of his parliamentary group.

"Today it became clear why they were hurrying so much to adopt the amendments to the laws of the National Security Agency (DANS) and at first reading the amendments to the law of intelligence agencies. Nobody asked the question who is Delyan Peevski and how would partner countries respond. It is not normal to have such an approach in a democratic republic and EU member," Tsvetanov said, adding his party has started a discussion about holding new general elections and about convocation of the Grand National Assembly for new Constitution.

He stressed that the leader of the Party of European Socialists (PES), Sergey Stanishev, betrayed the national interests with today's act.

"I am convinced that you will provoke mass protests with the way you stack the regional governors and the deputy ministers. And you are the people who will persecute the organizers of the protests. When I was Minister of the Interior I never opposed Bulgarian citizens for any reason. The leader of GERB and former Prime Minister Boyko Borisov at the time took the decision to resign as a true statesman," Tsvetanov said.
