Captain Pencho Penchev has resigned from the position of director of Bulgaria's Government Flight Crew 28, the state air service that flies government officials.

Penchev has not specified his motives for the move.

Bulgarian PM Plamen Oresharski later confirmed he has accepted the resignation.

In recent weeks, the topic of the alleged excessive use of Flight Crew 28 during the term in office of former Bulgarian PM Boyko Borisov resurfaced.

In some cases that surfaced since Borisov assumed office in July 2009, the crew had apparently been used for private appointments of members of cabinet and MPs.

The new Bulgarian Parliament has established an ad hoc committee to investigate the alleged misuse of Flight Crew 28.

According to data published by new PM Plamen Oresharski, the crew had been used 309 times, worth BGN 3 M, during Borisov's time as PM.

Captain Pencho Penchev was appointed at the helm of Flight Crew 28 in the end of 2009.
