Bulgaria’s embattled former Interior Minister Tsvetan Tsvetanov will be interrogated on Wednesday by the Specialized Prosecutor’s Office in relation to high-profile wiretapping allegations.

The interrogation started at 10 am Wednesday after the former minister showed up on time, saying he would not attempt to obstruct justice.

He once again protested his innocence, saying all that is happening is a deliberate attack against him.

Tsvetanov is accused of failing to exercise proper control over Interior Ministry officials, thereby enabling the unauthorized deployment of special surveillance equipment against high-profile politicians, magistrates and businesspeople.

The former Interior Ministry was stripped of his immunity as lawmaker last week.

If found guilty, Tsvetanov faces a penalty of up to eight years in prison.
