A yet unnamed "surprise person" will cut the ribbon at the launching ceremony of the second bridge over the river Danube between Bulgaria and Romania Friday, announced Bulgarian PM Plamen Oresharski.

"Trust me, this person won't be I, this will be a surprise," said Oresharski in an interview for Darik Radio Saturday.

Oresharski confirmed that Romanian PM Victor Ponta and EU Regional Policy Commissioner Johannes Hahn will be present at the ceremony Friday.

"We have also invited all Bulgarian ministers of transport that were involved in carrying through this project over the years," said the Bulgarian PM.

The so-called Danube Bridge 2 linking Vidin in Bulgaria and Calafat in Romania is part of the Pan-European transport corridor IV.

The project was started in the late 1990s, but was stalled multiple times.

The only other bridge between the two neighbors, Danube Bridge 1 Ruse-Giurgiu, was completed in 1954.
