Evacuation has been launched in Hungary, which expects the highest tide of the Danube flood wave to reach capital Budapest Monday.

Some 4,600 servicemen from the Hungarian army have been mobilized to assist emergency workers, with 5,000 in readiness to join.

At least 14 people have already perished in Hungary, in what are the heaviest floods in Central Europe for recent years.

The level of the Danube at Budapest on Monday is expected to reach 8.85 m, which is twice the normal level, and 25 cm more than the last record, set in 2006.

Deaths and missing persons are also reported in neighboring countries, such as Germany and the Czech Republic.

The Central European floods have also hit Slovakia, Austria and Switzerland.

The army has been mobilized in Germany, too, where the state of Sachsen-Anhalt is currently hardest-hit.

The Elbe at Magdeburg has reached levels of 7.30 m, against a normal level of 2 m.

The flood wave on the Danube is expected to reach Bulgaria the coming Friday.
