Bulgarian President Rosen Plevneliev has officially appointed Svetlozar Lazarov as Chief Secretary of the Interior Ministry.
Lazarov was proposed for the post Tuesday by the new Socialist-led government of PM Plamen Oresharski.
Born in 1974, Svetlozar Lazarov has since 1999 led a career in Bulgaria's security forces.
He started out as an anti-terrorist commando, and then worked in the National Security Service, which is now part of the State Agency for National Security.
News website dnevnik.bg has reminded that Lazarov is the son-in-law of Kamen Penkov, a deputy Interior Minister in the country’s last Socialist-led government (2005-2009).
Former police Chief Secretary Kalin Georgiev resigned last week.
