Bulgarian, Romanian, Spanish and Dutch nationals were most often expelled from Belgium over benefits fraud among all EU citizens.

In 2012, Belgian authorities registered a serious increase in the number of these cases, which amounted to a total of 2407, according to Maggie De Block, Secretary of State for Asylum and Migration and for Social Integration, as cited by Belgian daily "La Derni?re Heure" and the Bulgarian Telegraph Agency (BTA).

In comparison, the number of EU citizens ordered to leave Belgium in 2011 was 1542, compared to 502 in 2010.

In 2012, Belgian authorities revoked the residence permits of citizens of the above-mentioned four countries. The measure is taken when the people charged with benefit fraud are considered to pose an unjustified burden on the welfare system.
