The Embassy of Spain in Bulgaria has invited residents and guests of Sofia to attend the 20th edition of the Spanish and Ibero-American cinema week in Sofia taking place on June 12-16 at the Lumiere Hall of the National Palace of Culture.

The festival is organized at the initiative of the Embassy of Spain in Bulgaria with the support and cooperation of the Embassies of Argentina, Cuba, Venezuela, Chili, Ecuador and Columbia, as well as the educational affairs department of the Cervantes Institute and the National Palace of Culture.

During the festival, a total of 15 Ibero-American and Spanish films will be screened.

The week of Spanish and Ibero-American cinema aims to reach a universal audience, not only Spanish-speaking cinema fans, which is why most films will offer Bulgarian or English, and the screenings will be entrance-free.

During the Spanish and Ibero-American cinema week, Carlos Saura will arrive in Sofia to be awarded the title of Doctor Honoris Causa of the the National Academy for Theater and Film Arts "Krastyo Sarafov" (NATFA).

The official opening of the festival will take place on June 12 at 7 pm with the Bulgarian debut of the film "El Cuerpo" ("Body") from director Oriol Paulo.

On June 15, Saturday, NATFA will host a master class of Carlos Saura featuring an analysis of his film "Carmen."

On Sunday, June 16, Saura will close the Spanish and Ibero- American Cinema week with a screening of "Mama cumple 100 anos" ("Mom Turns 100").

The festival will include a range of cinema genres, including romantic Argentine and Chilean comedy, Columbian thriller, tragicomedies from Cuba and dramas from Ecuador and Venezuela.
