Bulgaria is worried by the extensive use of police force in the recent protest in neighboring Turkey, Minister of Foreign Affairs Kristian Vigenin said in a statment Sunday.

This is Bulgaria's first official reactions to events in Turkey since widespread protests crushed by police erupted Friday.

The Bulgarian Foreign Affairs Ministry has further stated that according to information it has, there are no Bulgarians who have been injured in the clashes.

"Bulgaria closely follows the developing events in our neighbor and friend Turkey," said Vigenin.

"We are worried by the eruption of violence and express our concern with the exessive use of force on the part of police against protesters," added the Bulgarian top diplomat.

The Foreign Affairs Ministry reminds all Bulgarian citizens located in Turkey to seek assistance, if needed, in Bulgaria's diplomatic missions in Ankara, Istanbul and Bursa.
