Who is Who: Bulgarian Culture Minister Nominee Petar Stoyanovich

Petar Stoyanovich was born on 25 June 1967 in the Bulgarian capital, Sofia.

In the period 1988- 1989 Stoyanovich was a German Studies student at the Sofia University "St. Kliment Ohridski". In 1995 he obtained a Bachelor's Degree in History and in History of Southern and Southeastern Europe from the University of Vienna. In 1998, Stoyanovich obtained a PhD in Philosophy from the same university.

From 1998 to 2000, Stoyanovich was Secretary of the Foreign Ministry during the term in office of the right-wing government of Ivan Kostov (1997-2001). He headed the bureau of Nadezhda Mihaylova as Deputy Chair of the European People's Party, EPP during the period 1999-2003.

In 2003, Stoyanovich headed the election headquarters of Sofia Mayor candidate Plamen Oresharski but his discontent over the attitude of the right-wing party's governing body to the candidate and the poor results of the campaign caused him to resign from all positions in the Union of Democratic Forces.

In 2003, Stoyanovich became political and international secretary of the "Georgyovden" Movement. He was elected Chair of the party in 2005 and left the party in 2011.

Stoyanovich was a member of the editorial board of "Razum"( Mind) magazine, but has been a freelancer since 2010.

Stoyanovich holds the National Order of Merit of the Republic of Malta.
