A medics' team from the Emergency Unit has been attacked and severely beaten overnight in the Bulgarian capital Sofia.
The news was reported Saturday by bTV.
The medics were called to help a woman suffering diabetes and respiratory problems.
When they arrived, they found out the case actually involved an alcohol-intoxicated 15-year-old girl, who was attending a prom party in a home.
Police arrested 6 people for the assault, ages 21 to 36, all with criminal records for hooliganism, battery, and illegal drugs possession.
The ambulance arrived 6 minutes after the call, only to be met by 20 people, who attacked the medics' team and then proceeded to attempt to destroy the vehicle.
According to bTV, Dr Krasimir Yordanov has sustained the most serious injuries. He has a 26-year experience as ER doctor, and has participated in the well-known documentary "Sofia's Last Ambulance."
The Chief of the ER Unit told the TV that he was furious and outraged and demanded from the "so-called Parliament" to do something to protect his staff. He refused to disclose the extent of the injuries of the team.
ER medics threaten to stage a protest rally Sunday and to stop answering calls.
