Bulgarian caretaker Prime Minister, Marin Raykov, has met in Rome his Italian counterpart, Enrico Letta, the Cabinet's press center informs Saturday.

Raykov was in Italy for an audience with Pope Francis at the Vatican on the occasion of May 24, when Bulgarians mark their National Day of Culture and Slavic Script.

According to the caretaker PM, the talks have focused entirely on the economy which has been dictated by the economic crisis across Europe.

The two have discussed energy policy issues such as the Nabucco gas pipeline project and diversification of routes and sources.

Another topic has been accelerating the work on the Corridor 8 project from Bulgarian Black Sea city of Burgas to Italy.

"Italy is the 6th trade partner of Bulgaria by volume and we spoke about ways to increase it. We also spoke about the Schengen area issue," Raykov has informed.
