The Deputy Chief of Bulgaria's State Agency for National Security, DANS, Dimitar Yordanov, has resigned.

The news was reported Thursday by caretaker Prime Minister, Marin Raykov, at a briefing at the Council of Ministries. Raykov said he has accepted the resignation.

He explained it stemmed from the scandal with leaked to media documents from the seizure by DANS and the prosecution of 350 000 election ballots from a printing house, suspected to be used to manipulate the vote.

At a briefing, Chief Prosecutor, Sotir Tsatsarov, said the documents definitely did not leak from his office and suspected DANS employees.

"This leak created flaws in the communication between certain structures and this imposed my interference. I had several meetings with DANS Director Konstantin Kazakov. He reported to me verbally and in writing on several occasions, but I had to reject these reports as they did not entirely coincide with the opinion of the Prosecutor's Office. Kazakov then shared with me that DANS cannot conclusively disprove the prosecution's claims the leaks came from them," Raykov explained.

Kazakov's Deputy, Dimitar Yordanov, who was in charge of the unit dealing with the ballots probe, has assumed full moral responsibility and has deposed his resignation.

Raykov informed the prosecution, including Tsatsarov, has accepted the above as well.

"To me this is the end of this unpleasant case," the PM concluded.
