Bulgarian Citizens, NGOs Invited to Propose Changes to Parliamentary Procedure

Bulgarian citizens and non-governmental organizations have been invited to submit proposals for the rules of organization and procedure of the new Parliament.

According to a decision adopted Wednesday by the ad-hoc committee tasked with the drafting of the rules of organization and procedures of the 42th General Assembly, the ideas of citizens and NGOs can reach Plenary Hall through MPs.

The rules of procedure of the 41st National Assembly will be used as a foundation for developing the rules of procedure of the newly-established Parliament.

By May 29, parliamentary groups and MPs can propose changes to the draft document, after which it will be published on the Parliament's website for one day.

The ad-hoc committee includes members from the Bulgarian Socialist party, BSP, the ethnic Turkish Movements for Rights and Freedoms, DPS, party and the far-right nationalist party Ataka (Atttack).

The center-right Citizens for European Development of Bulgaria (GERB) party refused to nominate representatives to the ad-hoc panel, voicing discontent over the principles of formation of the body.
