Bulgarian Star Actor Launches 42nd Parliament

Movie and theater celebrity, Stefan Danailov, officially launched Tuesday Bulgaria's 42nd General Assembly.

Under the Constitution, the convocation of the Parliament is launched by its oldest elected Member, who delivers the keynote address.

The new MPs also already took their oath of office, which states: "I pledge allegiance to the Republic of Bulgaria and swear to obey the Constitution and the laws of the country and to be led in all my actions by the interests of the people."

The anthems of Bulgaria and of the European Union have already been played as well.

Bulgaria's 42nd General Assembly is convening for the first time on Tuesday, May 21.

The Parliament is summoned by President Rosen Plevneliev with a decree issued on May 17 under article 75 of the Constitution.

The sitting started at 10 am.
