Bulgaria’s embattled former Interior Minister has declared that he would give up his immunity as lawmaker immediately after the country’s new Parliament is convened.

Tsvetanov made the statement at a much anticipated press conference, at which former Prime Minister Boyko Borisov surprisingly announced that his center-right GERB party will request a cancelation of Sunday’s election results due to a "violation" on the day before the vote.

Tsvetanov, who is Borisov’s closest aide and a key official of the center-right GERB party, faces charges of failing to exercise proper control over the use of special surveillance devices during his term in office.

The Chief Prosecutor’s Office has already declared that it will request stripping the immunity of Tsvetanov after the latter takes the oath of office as Member of the Parliament.
