Bulgarian caretaker Prime Minister Marin Raykov has recommended a more dynamic rotation of the country's Burssels-based public officials in order to boost preparedness for assuming the rotating EU Presidency in 2018.

Raykov, as cited by the Focus news agency, suggested Tuesday that the training of officials for the Bulgarian EU Presidency in 2018 had to start as soon as possible as the number of currently available professionals was highly insufficient.

Bulgaria's caretaker Prime Minister suggested that Bulgaria appeared to be losing pace despite the fact that event seemed somewhat distant.

He argued that the ministries which had representatives in Brussels had to do everything possible to ensure a dynamic rotation of employees in order to expand the pool of officials with skills and expertise.

Raykov specified that this meant a reshuffle of officials who had already spent 5 or 6 years at Bulgaria's Permanent Representation to the EU.

"The rotation of Bulgarian officials at Bulgaria's Permanent Representation to the EU is of crucial importance, which is why I ask all ministries with representatives at Bulgaria's permanent mission to draft their own programs and strategies for the appointment of officials for the EU Presidency in 2018," he stated.

Bulgaria is to take over the EU Presidency in the second half of 2018.
