A shooting took place as Italy's new prime minister was being sworn in Sunday, Italy's state-run news agency ANSA said.

Two policemen were hurt and the shooter was taken into custody, ANSA said.

The shooting took place in front of the prime minister's office -- but the new prime minister, Enrico Letta, was being sworn in at the time at the president's palace a short distance away.
