The restrictions on the capacity of renewable energy plants serviced by the three distributors operating in Bulgaria will remain in force on Friday.

On Thursday, under instructions of the Electricity System Operator (ESO), power distributors CEZ, EVN and Energo-Pro ordered wind farms and photovoltaic plants in the country to curb their capacity by 40% for the period 10 am – 5 pm in a bid to overcome an imbalance between electricity production and consumption.

Seeking to prevent a power grid breakdown amid low domestic consumption and weak exports, ESO ordered similar capacity restrictions for renewable energy producers on April 6, April 13, and April 14, according to reports of mediapool.bg.
